Proud Abba
If you want to shep some nachas, check this out. My daughter is SIX years old. She's a FIRST grader. But she's got a knack for Hebrew--reading and speaking--and she's picking it up pretty quickly.
Friday night, she was leafing through a siddur and read the bracha of Shelo Asani Isha. Needless to say, she's not familiar with it, because they don't say it in her all-girls school. And until recently, her davening as been by rote - she wasn't actually reading the words in the siddur.
So she reads aloud, "Shelo. Asani. Isha?" She turned to me and said, "Abba, that doesn't make sense."
I was so proud. Her innocent confusion led to a conversation, which I hope will continue for a long time.
